NewsQuest

NewsQuest is a project from the UI Design Master at Talent Garden. The brief challenged us to rethink how young adults consume news: passively, in fragments, and with skepticism. My team and I designed an app to foster active, dynamic news consumption and boost user retention.

GOAL

The goal was to create a mobile app that would allow users aged 20 to 30 to:

  • access reliable and diverse content

  • explore complex topics in an interactive and non-linear way

  • develop critical thinking through integrated fact-checking

  • enjoy a smooth, personalized, and visually engaging reading experience

APPROACH

The project followed a structured, collaborative design process:

  • Quick user research: identified user needs and news consumption habits

  • Personas and benchmark: defined target profiles and analyzed similar products

  • Wireframe: translated early concepts into low-fidelity layouts to explore navigation patterns and content hierarchy

  • Moodboard and style tile: defined the app’s visual direction, including colors, typography, iconography, and UI elements

  • Key screens and click dummy prototype: developed the main interfaces and prototyped them using simple click-dummy interactions

  • Microinteractions: designed transitions and animations to improve usability and engagement

  • Final pitch: presented the project to industry professionals, showcasing the process and final prototype

OUTCOME

The result is an app that combines high-quality information, dynamic interaction, and light gamification designed to encourage reading and sharing of verified content.
We created a tailored visual identity, characterized by a modular layout and smooth animations.

The inspiration for the visual mood comes from the medieval concept of a “quest” — an adventurous journey in search of a valuable goal. Similarly, the user embarks on a path of discovery and news verification within an engaging and immersive experience. This medieval-inspired atmosphere is conveyed through a carefully curated selection of colors, typography, and iconography, which gives the app a unique and distinctive personality.

All visual elements were also designed and tested in compliance with WCAG guidelines to ensure an accessible and inclusive experience for a wide range of users.

Key features include:

  • Interactive long reads with animated infographics

  • Transparent fact-checking with badges and source cards

  • Personalized homepage and thematic content journeys

  • AI assistant for informative search

  • User profile with learning progress tracker
